Maxwell Park Private Security Interest Form

What: The Maxwell Park Neighborhood Council (MPNC) is gathering information on hiring private security in our neighborhood to supplement police patrols. We are gauging interest because the number of households who pay a monthly fee will determine how many hours of patrolling we can afford and how much each household will pay. (i.e. The more households that sign up, the more hours we can afford at a lower monthly rate.)

Details about these patrols (company selection, frequency, protocols, etc.) are still to be determined and follow-up will be shared at MPNC meetings.

Why: Recently, there has been an uptick in auto thefts, attempted and successful home burglaries, and stolen vehicle dumping, among other property crimes in Maxwell Park. These nonviolent crimes are a low priority for OPD. Furthermore, the upcoming city budget will likely slash services in the face of a large deficit. We are committed to continuing to work with OPD while supplementing security in this way. Other neighborhoods in Oakland, and Maxwell Park years ago, have pooled their resources to increase eyes on our streets to reduce criminal activity.

Who can contribute: Residents of Maxwell Park: 580/MacArthur to the east, High St to the north, 55th St to the south, Brookdale/Trask to the west. See map here.
