Short Recap
Holly Joshi, Director of the Department of Violence Prevention, provided an in-depth overview of the city's efforts to re-implement the Ceasefire/Lifeline strategy to reduce gun violence. Key points:
Ceasefire is a data-driven, evidence-based model that requires cross-sector collaboration. The DVP is focused on the intervention/support services side, while OPD handles the enforcement.
The DVP has reorganized, retrained staff, and implemented new data collection to ensure fidelity to the Ceasefire model. Early results show 20% reductions in homicides and 30% reductions in shootings.
The DVP is seeking grant funding to expand staffing and services to reach more high-risk individuals.
