2/18/2024 - MPNC: Public Safety NAT Meeting

Meeting Materials

Next Steps

  • MPNC Chair Jose Dorado will gauge interest in private security patrol through an email poll. Neighbors recommended that the email include some context into the history and capabilities of a patrol when sending it. If you are interested in helping to lead this initiative, please reach out directly to Jose.

  • Become a block captain, or just learn more about block-by-block organizing, at the February 27th Safer Blocks: Information Session. Register today!

  • Send Councilmember Jenkins an email to express appreciation for the Maxwell Park Traffic Safety Study and/or to alert him to any traffic hot spots that you are aware of.

  • If you are a victim of a crime, please report it. Data drives decisions on where OPD places resources.

Crowdsourced Safety Ideas

  • Purchase a key fob faraday pouch/box to block the signals that could allow the car to be started by anyone who should not be able to.

  • Get and/or turn on porch lights. Then just leave 'em on.

  • Pepper gel is better than pepper spray

  • Start a neighborhood WhatsApp group (can just be for the neighbors around you or for your whole block.) If you need help with this, just email us and we will connect you with a WhatsApp whiz.

  • Get low volt lights to light your sidewalks and trees

  • Lock up your car/house/stuff.
