OMCA Hosts: Hella Juneteenth “The Cookout”

  • 1000 Oak Street Oakland, CA, 94607 United States (map)

Cookouts hold cultural significance within the Black American experience, serving as pillars of community, cuisine, and celebration. At OMCA, “The Cookout” will feature the Bay Area’s finest Black chefs and Black-owned restaurants collaborating on a special Cookout Plate. This plate will showcase classic dishes and backyard favorites curated by Last Supper Society and Town Fare, including chef Michele McQueen of Town Fare, chef Byron Hughes of Last Supper Society, Sobre Mesa, Smokin’ Woods, and more.

“The Cookout” promises a day filled with backyard fun and excitement for the entire family. Attendees can also groove to music spun by an all-star lineup of DJs, including Fat Tony, DJ Kenzo, and DJ Darling Cool, playing cookout classics that will make you electric slide and two-step. Along with culinary delights and music, guests can engage in a spades tournament organized by UPLFTRS, a collective line dance led by choreographer Yeni Lucero, wine tasting curated by Black Vines, a unique art installation by Creative Shields, and lawn games scattered throughout OMCA’s picturesque garden. There will be something for everyone to enjoy!
